Why Delocate, How It Works, Add A Cafe, Contact, Toolkit, Exhibit Documentation, Delocator in the Press

I ADDED A REPEAT, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
For now I can help you, just send an email here with the name of the cafe and zip code. In the future, you might want to try Delocator.MapYourCity.net for a web space that promotes independent businesses and allows users to edit their posts.

WHAT DOES "DELOCATE" MEAN?
"Delocate" is a semantic play on the online store locator function which appears on many retail chain web sites. Instead of using the online store locator (for instance on the Starbucks web site), use the Delocator to find independent businesses.

WHEN WILL THIS BE AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY?
Delocator.net is maintained by just one person (me) and I can't imagine trying to maintain a site that serves more than one country. But...

The code that enables the site is available on the Get the Code page. While you would have to be a little web savvy in order to download the code and create your own Delocator, it is not too difficult--maybe you have a friend who can help you out?

Wouldn't it be great to see this project spread like a virus through other nations? Check out Delocator.ca, as Canada has already established a site.

WHY ARE THERE CORPORATE CHAINS LISTED WITHIN THE "INDEPENDENT" LISTINGS?
Policing this site has become a much larger task than I could have ever imagined. There are over 5000 entries in the database and the site is maintained by just one person. For right now the site is not editable by outside users (which would be the best solution to this problem). This is something that I would love to see expanded on the site, such that anyone could delete locations that people post to the site which aren't exactly independent. Delocator.net was built as an infrastructure that could be passed on to others interested in promoting independent businesses. Although the site may read as a ploy against one particular coffee joint, the aim of the site is to become less one-dimensional and to promote creative solutions to the power struggle between large corporations and...the rest of us. Having read all of this, if you find something that truly doesn't belong within the café, bookstore or movie theatre listings, please email me with the name of the café and zip code.
